ubud rice terraces

The spectacular rice terraces at Cekingan village is about 20 minutes drive by car to the north of Ubud, here we will see Balinese farmer do their rice field in oblique area complete with its irrigation system. And this farming technique has been handed down from generation to generation. The unique irrigation system is called Subak in Balinese.
To enjoy the beautiful views you can sit in several cafes or walk past a souvenir shops then walk down and cross the bridge to get to the other side. As the hike goes further one might realize that there are a lot of thought and work goes into taking care of the soil and irrigating the fields. Wear walking shoes as it could be a bit difficult when others are coming or going at the same narrow steps and can be muddy if wet.
Some local farmers will be asking for donation in order to pass their rice field areas. The money will be used to maintenance their rice fields and feed their family. 10.000-15.000 rupiah for 3 - 4 people per spot will be enough. There are view spots, so be prepared for a small amount of money.
Don't be surprise if some of the local farmers using gesture offering photos opportunities and end up with a donation. Just say no thank you if you don't need to.
By the way there are a lot of photo opportunities, even if you do not walk the whole way around the area.
